Title: SS NORMANDIE (French Passenger Ship, 1935-47)
Caption: French line's SS NORMANDIE outward bound from New York, New York, on 1 July 1936, passing 34th St. NORMANDIE was laid up at New York in 1939 and was taken over by the Navy for conversion to a troopship as USS LAFAYETTE in 1942. Nearly complete, she was destroyed by fire on 9 February 1942. The wreck was scrapped in 1947.
