Caption: The two largest ships in the lower left are the incomplete monitor PARAGUACU [laid down in 1890, launched in 1931 and 1938, commissioned in 1940; ex-VITORIA (1936), ESPIRITO SANTO (1923) and MARANHAO], and the tug HEITOR PERDIGAO (ex-French ACHARNE) or MUNIZ FREIRE (ex-French ENTETE), purchased 1923. Anchored out is probably the 10th ship of the Para class, MATO GROSSO, and pier side are the cruisers BAHIA and RIO GRANDE DO SUL and the battleships SAO PAULO and MINAS GERAIS.
