Description: (American Freighter, 1916) Nearing completion at the Seattle Construction & Dry Dock Company shipyard, Seattle, Washington, on 19 June 1916. This ship was chartered by the U.S. Army on 15 October 1917. She was acquired by the Navy on 12 July 1918 and commissioned a day later as USS Cauto (ID # 1538). She was returned to her owner, the New York & Cuba Mail Steamship Company, on 22 February 1919. The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM.
