Description: (American Freighter, 1916) In port, circa 1918 Built at Seattle, Washington, in 1916, this steamship was acquired by the Navy on 12 July 1918 and placed in commission the next day as USS Cauto (ID # 1538). She was decommissioned on 22 February 1919 and delivered to the U.S. Shipping Board for return to her owners. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
