Caption: Pastel and charcoal by Lieutenant Commander Griffith Baily Coale, USNR, a Navy combat artist. He sketched this scene during the attack and completed the work six months later. It depicts the height of the attacks as USS NEVADA (BB-36) steams out of the Ford Island Channel, at left, under heavy attack by Japanese planes. Battleship row burns in the right background while USS OGLALA (CM-4) capsizes in the foreground.
