Caption: On 8 February 1813, nine boats from the British frigates HMS MAIDSTONE, Captain George Burdett, HMS BELVIDERA, Captain Richard Byron, HMS DEMON, Captain James Sanders, and HMS STATIRA, Captain Hassard Stacpoole, under the command of Lieutenant Kelly Nager of the MAIDSTONE attacked, in the Chesapeake, the United States schooner LOTTERY of six 12-pounder carronades and twenty-nine men, Captain John Southcombe. After a most determined resistance, the privateer was boarded and carried. The American captain was mortally wounded and nineteen men killed and wounded. The British had one man killed and five wounded.
