Description: Photo #: S-511-3 Proposed 12000 Ton Cruiser (Modified Wichita) - Scheme B Preliminary design plan prepared for the General Board during the development of the Baltimore (CA-68) class heavy cruisers. This plan, dated 2 November 1939, is for a 12,000 ton standard displacement ship (13,900 ton normal displacement) with a main battery of nine 8/55 guns and a secondary battery of twelve 5/38 guns. Ship's dimensions are: waterline length 640'; waterline beam 66.25'; draft 22'. Powerplant has 100,000 horsepower for a speed of 33.5 knots. Scale of the original drawings is 1/32 = 1'.
