Description: Photo #: S-511-54-A Proposed Conversion of CA 68 Class to CV Preliminary design plan prepared for the General Board during consideration of aircraft carrier conversions of other types of warships. This plan, dated 4 June 1942 (the date of the Battle of Midway!), depicts a ship generally similar to the later Saipan (CVL-48) class, but with less freeboard. Scale of the original drawings is 1/32 = 1'. The original plan is in the 1939-1944 Spring Styles Book held by the Naval History and Heritage Command.
