A portrait in oils of William Bainbridge, by John Wesley Jarvis, is owned by the City of New York. This painting depicts Bainbridge in uniform, with the double-breasted jacket fully buttoned. He is depicted full height, facing the artist, with his left foot on a cannon ball that is resting in a shot rack on deck. Bainbridge is holding a sword in his right hand and is not wearing a hat. His head appears to be almost identical to that in the Jarvis portrait shown above. The painting's background features a good deal of cloudy gunsmoke and the breech of a cannon.
