Seized German Ship

Interned German Vessel
Title: Seized German Ship
Caption: German steamer Kamila Rickmers, later renamed USS Ticonderoga by the U.S. Navy
Description: Kamila Rickmers, a German merchant ship, was among the vessels interned in the United States before American entry into the war. When the U.S. declared war on Germany, the Navy seized her and renamed her USS Ticonderoga. She was placed in commission on 5 January 1918, but her career proved short. On 30 September, a German U-boat sent her to the bottom, claiming the lives of over 200 men.
