Description: Photo #: 80-G-45671 Rhino ferry (RHF) Navy SeaBees joining pontoon boxes together to assemble a rhino. Photograph released on 6 June 1944, at the time of the Normandy invasion, in which rhino ferries played a significant role. Each rhino consisted of 180 pontoons attached together, six across and thirty long. The individual pontoons were welded steel boxes 5' x 7' x 5' in size. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.
