Photo #: NH 110743-1 Scuttling of the French Fleet at Toulon
Title: Scuttling of the French Fleet at Toulon
Description: 27 November 1942 Destroyer Le Mars capsizing to starboard after being scuttled at the Toulon Lazaret (Quarantine Station) on 27 November. This is the second view of a series showing the ship sinking. Note the four depth charge throwers on her fantail and the rails on her stern to ensure that depth charges from her internal racks fall clear of the ship. Le Mars appears to have a 25mm Hotchkiss anti-aircraft machine gun (Model 1939 or 1940) mounted atop her after superstructure. The original print was received from the Office of Naval Intelligence. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
