"Word at Sea" Stone Carving
Title: "Word at Sea" Stone Carving
Caption: "Word at Sea" stone carving. Stone carving by Constantine Seferlis in the ceiling of the Northwest Cloister of the National Cathedral in Washington. It depicts two Sailors and a Marine at Divine Services, a Navy Chaplain preaching, a gun turret with crow's nest above, and an anchor, which is not only a Navy symbol but also an old Christian symbol for steadfastness and faith. A plaster model used as the basis for the carving was presented by Washington National Cathedral to Navy Memorial Museum, Washington Navy Yard, on April 21, 1967.
