"Word at Sea" plaster model beneath the stone carving
Title: "Word at Sea" plaster model beneath the stone carving
Caption: "Word at Sea" Plaster Model. Presented by Washington National Cathedral to Navy Memorial Museum, Washington Navy Yard, on April 21, 1967. Used as the model for a stone carving by Constantine Seferlis in the ceiling of the Northwest Cloister of the Cathedral. The plaster model is shown here beneath the stone carving. The carving depicts two Sailors and a Marine at Divine Services, a Navy Chaplain preaching, a gun turret with crow's nest above, and an anchor, which is not only a Navy symbol but also an old Christian symbol for steadfastness and faith.
