Caption: This insignia was the result of a ship-wide contest held in 1961. It was selected by a committee of judges as the most appropriate of ten entries. The creator of the design was Jesus A. Abaya, TN, USN. The central figure of the bulldog was felt to be appropriate as a representative of the versatility of the LSD-type vessel.
