Caption: This insignia was adopted by the HENRY CLAY's pre-commissioning unit in 1963. The Latin motto, "Preservatio Ab Natio," translated "Preservation of the Nation," was proposed by a crewmember and developed from this quotation from Clay's writings: "If anyone desires to know the leading and paramount object of my public life, the preservation of this union will furnish him the key.".
