Piercing the mine are a sword, representing mechanical sweeping, and a lightning bolt, representing influence sweeping. Above this device are symbols of the wooden ships and iron men traditional to the mine force. The seahorse, with a full wake, indicates the ship's endurance and mobility. The Latin motto is translated, "aggressive before the fleet." The blue field represents the sea. Photographed in 1968.
