Caption: This insignia, shown here as an embroidered patch, was adopted in 1965, after ALAMOGORDO was converted from ARD-26. The design is intended to represent the ship's primary mission: dry docking fleet ballistic missile submarines. The motto, "ad principatum contendimus," is translated "we strive for excellence." Photographed in 1968.
