Title: Insignia: USS CONFLICT (MSO-426)
Caption: This insignia, adopted in 1965, was designed by Russell R. Shaw, Radarman Third Class, USN. It features and symbolically depicts, the mine force motto: "wooden ships - iron men." The knight, shown attacking a mine, represents the "iron men" of the mine force in pursuit of their duties. The knight is riding an "O" float, another symbol of the mine force. The rope border is a nautical symbol of long standing. Photographed in 1968.
