Caption: This insignia, shown as an embroidered patch, is a slight modification of the original BARBEL insignia, which was adopted in 1959. Following her commissioning, BARBEL's bow diving planes were replaced by sail-mounted planes. The figure of BARBEL shown in the insignia was then modified accordingly. Photographed in 1968. See NH 65381-KN for the original design.
