NH 65417-KN Insignia: Commander Submarine Flotilla Seven

Insignia: Commander Submarine Flotilla Seven
Title: Insignia: Commander Submarine Flotilla Seven
Caption: This insignia was received from Commander Submarine Flotilla Seven (COMSUBFLOT 7) in 1968. It was designed in the traditional Japanese fashion, to combine beauty and simplicity. It features three interrelated symbols: Mount Fuji, a torii gate, and the submariners' dolphins. Mount Fuji commands a central place in Japanese culture, just as COMSUBFLOT 7 occupies the central point in all Western Pacific submarine operations. The torii gate, symbol of a shrine, also represents the special authority and responsibility of COMSUBFLOT 7. The dolphins represent the submarine force, of which this command is an important part. Photographed in 1968.
