Isaac Coffin: Born in Boston, entered the Royal Navy 1773. Lieutenant, 1778. Commander, 1781. Captain, 1782. Rear Admiral, 1804. Vice Admiral, 1808. Admiral, 1814. Served off North America 1773-79, as a junior officer and as CO of H.M. cutter PLACENTIA. and H.M. armed ship PINSON. He commanded other ships until 1794. From 1794 to 1808, when his active duty ceased, Coffin served ably in several administrative posts.
