Title: Insignia: USS RATON (AGSS-270)
Caption: The basic design of this insignia dates back to the RATON's initial commissioning during World War II. When the ship was converted to a radar picket submarine, in 1953, the insignia was modified to fit the new missions RATON had acquired. When RATON was again redesignated an AGSS, the designator on the insignia was again changed, but the rest of the design was retained. Copies of the insignia were received in 1958 and 1968.
