USS KEARSARGE (CVS-33) decommissioning
Title: USS KEARSARGE (CVS-33) decommissioning
Caption: Rear Admiral Norman C. Gillette, USN, Commander Anti-Submarine Warfare Group Three, and senior member of the decommissioning party offering remarks on the career of KEARSARGE. The admiral traced the service of KEARSARGE to the nation, first as a CV, then as a CVA, and finally as a CVS. He noted that she had served 24 years and had never lowered her flag to the enemy: "Only the passage of time and the economy axe could do that." Long Beach, California, 13 February 1970.
