Vought OS2U "Kingfisher"
Title: Vought OS2U "Kingfisher"
Caption: Ensign Mac. J. Roebuck standing by his wrecked "Kingfisher" about August 1942. He was piloting the plane when it crashed on Mount Buxton, Calvert Island, British Columbia, on 20 August 1942, and later assisted in the salvaging of it's instruments and engine. The plane's airframe was recovered by a Royal Canadian air force salvage team in 1964. After being reconstructed by the Vought Aeronautics' quarter century club, the OS2U was placed on display aboard the USS NORTH CAROLINA (BB-55) memorial at Wilmington, North Carolina, and was dedicated on 25 June 1971.
