Caption: Painted in Chinese waters circa 1861. Lieutenant Edwin John Pollard, RN, who probably commissioned this painting, took command of this ship on 30 October 1861, shortly after his promotion from lieutenant and brought her home to the UK before mid-1862. She was one of the four ships ordered in 1845 as iron-hulled screw frigates and completed as transports, the others being VULCAN, MEGAERA, and GREENOCK.
