USN 900524 6-inch Shell

6-inch Shell
Title: 6-inch Shell
Caption: A 6-inch shell on a stand, supposedly the first shell fired on Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, June 1898. The shell was given to the commandant in 1927 by a Spanish gentleman who insisted that it was the first shell fired by the U.S. Navy. There is no way of verifying whether or not this is correct but the projectile has been fired and is of the type used at the time of the Spanish-American War.
