Description: Photo #: S-511-22 Study of Light Cruiser with 6-Inch Guns, Scheme 2 Preliminary design plan prepared for the General Board during an examination of light cruiser designs with the same gun armament as the Cleveland (CL-55) class, but with greater speed and improved protection. This plan, dated 25 July 1940, is for a 13,200-ton (standard displacement) ship, 680-feet long, with her aircraft facilities located amidships. It represented an effort to control weights and improve stability by reducing the after hull by one deck. Note that the cruiser has quadruple torpedo tubes amidships, immediately aft of the aircraft catapults. Scale of the original drawing is 1/32 = 1'. This drawing is marked Void and was presumably superseded by that seen in Photo # S-511-18. The original plan is in the 1939-1944 Spring Styles Book held by the Naval History and Heritage Command.
