Description: Photo #: S-584-145 Undated U.S. Navy Plan for the British Battle Cruiser Hood A U.S. Navy drawing of the British battle cruiser Hood. This plan was prepared for comparison with contemporary preliminary designs being considered for construction for the U.S. Navy. According to the original caption, the data to produce this plan was provided by U.S. Navy Captain Lewis McBride, assigned in London during World War I, and Comdr. Stanley Goodall of the British Navy, who served in the U.S. Navy Bureau of Construction & Repair during the war. Although undated, the serial number of the drawing (No.005029) suggests that it was prepared early in 1919. Hood was completed in 1920. This plan shows a design incorporating eight 15-inch guns and a speed of 31.25 knots in a ship 849 feet 6 inches long on the waterline, 95 feet 6 inches in beam, and with a normal displacement of 41,120 tons. The original document was ink on linen (black on white). The original plan is in the 1911-1925 Spring Styles Book. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
