Title: "2150-2200 Ton Destroyer Leader ... June 10, 1918" Note:
Description: Photo #: S-584-140 2150-2200 Ton Destroyer Leader ... June 10, 1918 Outline inboard profile drawing of a preliminary design for a large destroyer leader that was under consideration during mid-1918. This design was the most ambitious of the set under consideration, providing for a 360-ft. long ship capable of 37 knots maximum speed. The drawing shows a layout with all boilers forward, thus avoiding placing them in two widely separated spaces (as seen in Photo # S-584-141), which created stresses in hull structure. The design never was adopted for construction. This plan displays the layout of main propulsion plant-related features and gives dimensions in feet for spacing of decks and compartments. The original document was ink on linen (black on white). The original plan is in the 1911-1925 Spring Styles Book. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
