WWII Killed in Action List "D"

MM2c Noah Danley was killed in action at Saipan on 16 June 1944 while serving with the 18th Naval Construction Battalion. Danley was buried at the 4th Marine Division Cemetery, Saipan and reinterred at Oakland Cemetery, Weatherford,  Texas. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
MM2c Paul Anthony Davidich was killed in action during the invasion of Iwo Jima on 19 February 1945 while serving with the 133rd Naval Construction Battalion. Davidich was buried at the 4th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima and reinterred at Custer National Cemetery in Crow Agency, Montana. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
SF1c William Davidson was killed in action at Bougainville on 26 November 1943 during an enemy attack when a shell directly hit his foxhole killing him instantly. Davidson served with the 71st Naval Construction Battalion. He was burled in Army, Navy, & Marine Corps Cemetery #1, Torokina Point, Bougainville and reinterred at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
  MM3c Ellery Day was killed in action on 10 January 1945 at Luzon while serving with the 302nd Naval Construction Battalion. MM3c Day was killed in the line of duty while on an amphibious assault operation. He was buried in the US Army Cemetery, Luzon, Philippine Islands and later reinterred at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
MM2c Neldon Arthur Day died from wounds received in enemy action at Iwo Jima on 19 February 1945 while serving with the 133th Naval Construction Battalion. Day was buried at the 5th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima and reinterred at Grand Valley Cemetery in Moab, Utah. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Iwo Jima, and was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
 

S1c Alton DeCoudreaux was killed in enemy action at Peleliu from shrapnel wounds to his head on 16 September 1944. He was working in unloading supplies on the beach under heavy enemy mortar and artillery fire when he was mortally wounded by an exploding enemy mortar shell. He served with the 17th Special Naval Construction Battalion. DeCoudreaux was buried at USAF Cemetery, Peleliu, and reinterred at Saint Roch Cemetery #02, New Orleans, Louisiana.

S1c DeCoudreaux received a posthumous commendation letter dated 12 October 1944 stating: "while serving with the 17th CB Special on Peleliu Island during action of 9-16-44 he was engaged in the loading and unloading of supplied on the beach and in the evening was defending a portion of the front line inward from the beach, at which time it was under heavy enemy mortar and artillery fire, He displayed the highest qualities of bravery and devotion to duty until mortally wounded by an exploding enemy mortar shell." He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.

CM2c Joseph Deeks was killed in action at Guadalcanal while working on a gasoline barge which sustained a direct hit from enemy bombs on 16 October 1942. He served with the 6th Naval Construction Battalion. Deeks was buried at 1st Marine Division Cemetery, Guadalcanal and reinterred at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Capital District, Philippines.
BM2c John DeLuca was killed in action from wounds sustained in enemy action near the New Hebrides Group on 3 August 1944. He served with Construction Battalion Detachment 1038 and  died on a hospital ship en route to US Naval Hospital #6. DeLuca was buried in a cemetery in the New Hebrides and reinterred at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
EM1c J.D DeMoney was killed in action during the Battle of Iwo Jima on 19 February 1945 while serving with the 133rd Naval Construction Battalion. Demoney was buried at the 4th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima and reinterred  at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Iwo Jima, and was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
MM2c Edward Desmarais was killed in action by a mine explosion in the English Channel near the coast of Normandy on 15 June 1944. He served with Construction Battalion Detachment 1006 during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France. Desmarais was buried at the First American Cemetery, St. Laurent Sector and reinterred at Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Colleville-sur-Mer, Departement du Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
CM2c Grover Cleveland Dodson, Jr was killed in action at Iwo Jima on 16 April 1945 when his truck struck a land mine. He served with the 106th Naval Construction Battalion. Dodson was buried at the 4th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima and reinterred at Roseland Cemetery, Reedville, Virginia. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Iwo Jima, and was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
CCM Gustav Dresner was killed in action at Rendova on 2 July 1943 while serving with the 24th Naval Construction Battalion. Dresner was buried at Cemetery #1, Rendova, and reinterred at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Capital District, National Capital Region, Philippines. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
COX Edmund Duehring was killed in action at Iwo Jima on 10 March 1945 from a blast injury and intraabdominal shock. He served with the 62nd Naval Construction Battalion. He was buried at the 5th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima and reinterred at Union Cemetery, Humboldt, Iowa. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Iwo Jima, and was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
S1c Ralph Duncan was killed in action at Guam on 16 August 1944 while serving with the 72nd Naval Construction Battalion. Duncan had been missing from camp for several days when he was found approximately one mile away. Death determined to be result of enemy actions. He was buried on Guam and reinterred at Grafton National Cemetery, Grafton, Taylor County, West Virginia. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
SC1c Norman Dupuis was killed by enemy action at Iwo Jima on 19 February 1945 while serving with the 133th Naval Construction Battalion. Dupuis was buried at the 4th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima and reinterred at Riverside Cemetery, Peshtigo, Wisconsin. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Iwo Jima, and was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
