WWII Killed in Action List "F"

  CM3c Lafayette Farley was killed in action on Bougainville, 3 November 1943 while serving with the 25th Naval Construction Battalion. Farley was sitting on his bulldozer working on the airfield when he was hit during an aircraft strafing action. Farley was buried at sea and memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Memorial and Cemetery in Manila, Philippines. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
WT1c Edward Fields was killed in action from injuries sustained during the invasion of Saipan on 17 June 1944 while serving with the 121st Naval Construction Battalion. Fields was buried at the 4th Marine Division Cemetery, Saipan.  He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
S1c Donald Fitzgerald, killed in action during an enemy air attack on 12 January 1944 while serving on Stirling Island with the 87th Naval Construction Battalion. He was 21 years old. S1c Donald Fitzgerald was interned in the cemetery at Filami Village, Mono Island and later reburied at Union Cemetery in Bakersfield, California. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
S1c Lorenza Fitzgerald was killed in action from wounds received in enemy action at Peleliu on 19 September 1944 while serving with the 17th Special Naval Construction Battalion. He was buried at sea and memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery. Philippines. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
CM2c Glenn Curtis Floe was killed in action by enemy shell fire during the initial invasion of Iwo Jima on 19 February 1945. He served with the 133rd Naval Construction Battalion. Floe was buried at the 4th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima and reinterred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Iwo Jima, and was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
  S2c Burton Foster died of gunshot wounds to lower right chest from enemy action while serving as sentry within bivouac area in combat zone on Bougainville, 28 November 1943. He was serving with the 36th Naval Construction Battalion. Foster was burled at Division Cemetery, Empress Augusta Bay, Bougainville and reinterred at Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton, Ohio. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
  S2c Gordon Stewart Francis killed in enemy action at Samar, Philippines while serving with Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 622. Francis was aboard the MS Sommelsdijk when it was torpedoed while at anchor at Samar on 25 December 1944. Francis was buried at USAF Cemetery No. 2, Tacloban, Leyte. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, and entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic- Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Philippines Defense Ribbon.
SF3c James Fulton ws killed in action at Guam on 25 July 1944 while serving with the 25 Naval Construction Battalion. On July 21, 1944 the United States invaded the island of Guam to use the airfield island for their strategic bombers to travel less distance on their bombing runs to Japan. The 25th Naval Construction Battalion alongside the Third Marine Battalion arrived at the beach being hit with sniper and mortar fire. After day of constant fire, Fulton was killed while moving ammunition to the beach head.  He was 29 years old. Fulton was buried at Army, Navy, Marine Cemetery #1, Guam, and reinterred  at Grand Island Cemetery in Grand Island, Nebraska. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
