WWII Killed in Action List "K"

  CCM George Kaitis was killed on Saipan as a result of enemy rifle fire while on authorized liberty on 18 March 1945. He served with the 51st Naval Construction Battalion. Kaitis was buried in the 2nd Marine Division Cemetery, Saipan and reinterred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, California. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
  S2c William Kappelsberger was killed in action at Normandy, France on 7 September 1944 while serving with the 28th Naval Construction Battalion.  He was buried at and reinterred at Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, New York. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
SK1c Claude Kemmerer was killed in action in the Solomon's on 22 February 1943 while serving with the 34th Naval Construction Battalion. Kemmerer was a member of the 34th Naval Construction Battalion, one of the first African-American Naval units to be commissioned.  Kemmerer  was buried at White Beach Cemetery, Florida Island, and reinterred at Oakwood Cemetery, Parsons, Kansas. Kemmerer was posthumously awarded Purple Heart and Victory Medals. 
  PTR3c Fred Hunker Kettering was killed in action at Iwo Jima on 25 February 1945. He served with the 133rd Naval Construction Battalion  Kettering was buried at the 4th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima and reinterred at Highwood Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Iwo Jima, and was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
S1c Patrick King was killed in enemy action on Tacloban, Philippines on 25 Dec 1944 while serving with the Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 623. Buried at USAF Cemetery No. 2, Tacloban, Leyte and reinterred at Saint Brendan Catholic Cemetery, Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, and entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic- Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Philippines Defense Ribbon.
CSFA David Klausner was killed in action at Iwo Jima when a truck he was riding in hit a land mine Her served with the 106th Naval Construction Battalion. Klausner's body was never recovered, but remains believed to be his were buried at the 4th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima and reinterred at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip,  Illinois. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Iwo Jima, and was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
MM1c John Krantz was killed in action at Olongapo, Philippines on 11 March 1945 from gunshot wounds received during an encounter with armed Japanese forces while searching for three lost Army pilots. He served with the 102nd Naval Construction Battalion. Krantz was buried in the field with a marked grave near Olongapo and reinterred at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Capital District, National Capital Region, Philippines. He was posthumously awarded the  Purple Heart, and entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic- Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Philippines Defense Ribbon.
  S1c Marvin Krull was killed in action as a result of gunshot wounds received during the assault on Normandy on 14 June 1944 while serving with the 81st Naval Construction Battalion. Krull was buried at American Military Cemetery, Brookwood, England and reinterred at Saint Luke Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
