WWII Killed in Action List "P"

CCM(AA) Otis Page was killed in action on Los Negros Island after being hit by shrapnel during an enemy air raid on 4 March 1944. He served with the 40th Naval Construction Battalion. Page was buried at Los Negros Cemetery and reinterred at Grand View Memorial Park and Cemetery in Glendale, California. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
CM3c Fred Parsons was killed in action at Normandy on 27 July 1944 while serving with the 111th Naval Construction Battalion.  Parsons worked on the crews towing men to the beaches using Rhino ferries ,As the assault on Normandy continued, the 111th NCB was tasked with building roads and to maintain the Mulberry Harbors that would help unload supplies from ships. Although far from the frontlines, the occasional artillery strikes from German positions would strike at the men on the beaches Parsons was hit by German artillery on 27 July 1944. He was 32 years old. Parsons was buried at and reinterred at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, Virginia. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
  WT2c Clevie Patton was killed in action on Tacloban, Philippines, on 25 Dec 1944, while serving with Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 623. Patton was buried at USAF Cemetery No. 2, Tacloban, Leyte. and reinterred at Bethany Cemetery, Fayetteville, Fayette County, Georgia. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, and entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic- Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Philippines Defense Ribbon.
MoMM2c Joseph Allen Peck was killed in action at Iwo Jima on 19 February 1945 while serving with the 133th Naval Construction Battalion. Peck was buried at the 4th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima, and reinterred at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Iwo Jima, and was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
  SF1c William Perkins was killed in action during a bombing raid at Rendova on 2 July 1943 while serving with the 24th Naval Construction Battalion. Perkins was buried at Cemetery #1, Rendova, and reinterred at Winnfield Cemetery, Winnfield, Louisiana. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
CM3c William John Pettypiece was killed in action on 12 February 1944 on Roi Island, Kwajalein while serving with the 121st Naval Construction Battalion.  As part of the Battle of Kwajalein, the 121st Naval Construction Battalion and 4th Marine Battalions were tasked with taking the island of Roi as the military continued its island hopping operations. On the night of February 12, 1944, as the 121st Naval Construction Battalion awakened by Anti-Aircraft fire. Pettypiece was reinterred at Rose Hill Cemetery in Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
  CM1c Robert Pirie was killed in action at Iwo Jima on 19 February 1945 while serving with the 133th Naval Construction Battalion. Pirie was buried at the 4th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima and reinterred at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant, Massachusetts. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Iwo Jima, and was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
S2c Philander Franklin Pittser Jr. was killed in action at Iwo Jima on 19 February 1945 while serving with the 133th Naval Construction Battalion. Pittser died on board the USS HIGHLANDS (APA-119) of an intracranial injury from shrapnel. He buried at the 5th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima and reinterred at Springfield Cemetery in Springfield, Colorado. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Unit Commendation for the Battle of Iwo Jima, and was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
  S2c Justin Plas was killed in action at Guadalcanal while working on a gasoline barge which sustained a direct hit from enemy bombs on 16 October 1942. He served with the 6th Naval Construction Battalion. His remains were not recovered. Plas is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Capital District, Philippines. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
  MM1c Joe Wheeler Plemons was killed in action at Rendova on 26 July 1943. He died at Army Evacuation Hospital of shrapnel wounds in neck received from enemy boming raid. Plemons served with the 24th Naval Construction Battalion. Plemons was buried at Cemetery #1, Rendova and reinterred at Bethel Cemetery, Kingston, Tennessee. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
  Ptr3c Ovila Potvin was killed in action on Funafuti Island, 17 November 1943, after being wounded as a result of enemy aerial bombardment at 0440. He died before arriving at field hospital. Potvin was buried at US Marine Corps Cemetery Funafuti Atoll and reinterred at Long Island National Cemetery, New York. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, was entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal.
  SCM3c Alexander Poulin was killed in action at Tacloban, Philippines on 25 December 1944. He served with Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 512. Buried at USAF Cemetery No. 2, Tacloban, Leyte and reinterred at Saint John's Cemetery, Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, and entitled to the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic- Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the Philippines Defense Ribbon.
